Prolonged Exposure

This evidence-based treatment is designed to be completed in 8 - 15 sessions. Treatment includes a full psychological assessment and recommendations, and follow up sessions designed to help you better understand how to work with overwhelming emotions that you may want to avoid, by approaching them on your terms. This form of treatment involves talking about past events, listening to session recordings, and doing safe activities that you have avoided.

Kate's Story

"When I lost full functioning in my legs, I didn't know what to do with myself. I was afraid to go out in public. I felt ashamed, full of grief, and I didn't feel safe anywhere. I was afraid of people judging me, of being attacked, of getting sick. I was so focused on surviving that I avoided thinking about what I was missing.

Prolonged Exposure really helped me address my fears. Talking about what happened to me was not easy. Beginning to get out of the house again was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. But it also showed me that the things I was afraid of either weren't going to happen at all, or if they did happen - that I could survive them and still have a meaningful life. I made it to the beach this year - I love the beach. A year ago I don't think I could have imagined putting my hands in the water."
